Cloisonn é

Cloisonn é, also known as cloisonn é enamel, is a unique technique that combines porcelain and copper. To make cloisonn é, first use purple copper to make the base, then use thin copper wire to stick patterns on the copper base, and then use enamel glazes of different colors to embed and fill the patterns. After repeated sintering, it is polished and gold-plated.

The production history of cloisonn é can be traced back to the Song and Yuan dynasties. It was not until Genghis Khan attacked Dashi that this technique gradually spread to the Central Plains region. In the Ming Dynasty, it began to be widely produced and applied in the Yongxuan Palace. During the "Jingtai period", it was the reign title of the seventh emperor of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Qiyu. Blue glaze made a breakthrough by inventing sky blue, cobalt blue, and sapphire blue. Copper based cloisonn é enamel utensils often used blue as the base color. Therefore, although not pioneered by Jingtai, this type of utensil was later collectively referred to as "Jingtai blue".
