 Hits:6167 Date:2015-12-28

Human's preference for incense is an innate nature, such as the love of butterflies, flowers and the sun of trees. It can not only be leisurely in the study and piano room, but also ethereal in the temple altar; It can not only watch Silent photos in the quiet room, but also cheer up during the banquet; It can not only calm the mind and open the orifices, but also cure diseases. The incense burner specially designed for burning incense did not appear until the Han Dynasty, and the Boshan stove in the Han Dynasty was the beginning of the incense burner. The aroma is pleasing to the mind, arousing the intelligence of the mind, regulating the body, the nose, the orifices, and the body and mind. It is precisely because of this understanding that emperors, generals, scholars and scholars of all dynasties cherish incense like gold and become addicted to incense.

Since the Han Dynasty, incense burners of different shapes and materials have been made in all dynasties. With the development of the foundry industry in the late Yuan and early Ming Dynasties, copper incense burners gradually replaced incense burners of other materials. During the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty, the casting of Xuande furnace reached the peak. The original special utensils for incense burning have developed into exquisite works of art with different shapes. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, incense burners have been used as sacrificial vessels for burning incense. Incense burners of all sizes have been displayed in temples, ancestral temples or ancient folk halls.

In this exhibition, there are 70 incense utensils provided by Wujiang Museum, including stove, bottle, incense insert, incense tube and incense box. The materials are copper, silver, wood and other varieties. Most of them are concentrated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This exhibition has rich exhibits and various types, which provides a valuable material basis for us to understand the incense culture.
