Writing the history of the Republic of China cannot do without writing about Jiangsu, and writing about Jiangsu cannot do without writing about Han Guojun

Han Guojun (1857-1942), also known as Zishi, was born in Hai'an Town, Tai County, Jiangsu Province (now Hai'an City, Nantong City, Jiangsu Province). He was a juren in the late Qing Dynasty, a wise minister in the late Qing Dynasty, and served as two governors of Jiangsu Province during the Republic of China period. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan, he supported the political proposition of the Communist Party to "stop the civil war and unite against Japan". Under the influence of the Communist Party, he tirelessly called for cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, stopped anti communist friction, and supported the New Fourth Army's eastward advance to resist the enemy. Finally, trapped in the encirclement of the Japanese puppet regime, he remained steadfast and refused to be appointed as the governor of the puppet Jiangsu Province. He sternly denounced the threats and temptations of the enemy and puppet regime, and later donated his life to the country. Marshal Chen Yi praised Han Guojun as a "model of national resistance". For more than 80 years, the life of Han Guojun has been magnificent, like a heavy classic, making us realize the hard won peaceful life and impressed by his integrity.

In memory of Mr. Han Guojun, the Hai'an County People's Government implemented a restoration project for his former residence in 1986. In the same year, the Cultural Bureau of Hai'an County issued a letter to collect calligraphy and painting treasures from famous calligraphers and painters across the country, in order to praise the noble patriotism of Han Guojun. In less than a year, we received over 750 works.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, we have selected more than 30 works for exhibition. Famous artists such as Liu Wenxi, Fan Shifu, Xiao Xian, and others gathered together to express their high praise to their masters through calligraphy and painting, and to recreate the upright character and gentlemanly demeanor of Han Guojun. This exhibition is not only an artistic feast that immerses the soul; It is also a patriotic classroom, integrating the red genes into our blood, rooting patriotism in our hearts, inspiring us to draw strength from the integrity of our predecessors, and bravely move forward to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
